Theatre — The Senator Wore Pantyhose

Sex and the Presidency in Bedford

By Michelle Saturley []

Just in case you can’t get enough of the campaign mudslinging going on, theater and political junkies can rejoice this weekend. The Bedford Off Broadway theater group will present their fall production, The Senator Wore Pantyhose, opening Friday, October 22.

“It’s no coincidence that we are doing this show right around election time,” said Ken Vachon, a volunteer with Bedford Off-Broadway. “It’s got a little bit of something for everyone: politics, farce, scandal, and innuendo.”

The show tells the story of the falling presidential campaign of “Honest” Gabby Sandalson, a regular guy whose integrity and “golly gee” demeanor have all but crippled his bid for the White House. Desperate for votes, Gabby’s sleazeball campaign manager trumps up an implausible sex scandal, which accidentally backfires. The biting satire was written by William Van Zandt & Jane Milmore.

The show is directed by Bedford resident Mark Gamache, and stars Alan Dary as Gabby Sandalson.

The Senator Wore Pantyhose will play Friday and Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23, and Oct. 29 and 30. All shows start at 8 p.m. For tickets and information, call 647-2864 or e-mail
