Pinings — Advice by Sherry HughesBack Off, Buddy
Dear Pinings,
I was invited to go to a party with a guy I know. We aren’t seeing each other, he is just a friend. When we got to the place, he started acting as if I was his girlfriend. He put his arm around me and tried to kiss me and stuff.
At one point, I told him to knock it off, and he backed off a little … but later on, it was more of the same.
My mom says I shouldn’t see him anymore. My friends think he’s hot and tell me I’m stupid if I let him go.
I asked him what was going on and I didn’t really get a straight answer.
What do you think?
- Melissa
Dear Melissa,
Do you really want to hang out with a guy who behaves in an inappropriate manner like that and then doesn’t apologize or even acknowledge it? I don’t care if he’s hot, his behavior was boorish. I suspect it was for the benefit of the other folks there — he wanted them to think he was with you as more than a friend. Either that or he’s completely socially inept.
Unless you get a really good explanation and an apology, without having to go looking for it, I’m with your mom.
