CD Reviews: Harvey Reid & Joyce Anderson, Christmas Morning

Sometimes Christmas songs should be peaceful, almost gospel like. I know itís hard to remember, but Christmas was once a religious holiday. Reid and Anderson bring us back to the root of Christmas with their folk renditions of traditional holiday songs (not to mention some originals as well). Track two, ďAngels We Have Heard on High,Ē is the perfect example of the coupleís musical talents. Reidís mandolin and harp serve as beautiful backgrounds for Andersonís fiddle to dance over. These two musicians, partners in life and music, are obviously comfortable playing music together. If youíre looking for a good album to sit by the fire with, sipping wine or enjoying conversation with family, Christmas Morning is the perfect answer. One note: although there is nothing wrong with Anderson and Reidís vocals, their instrumental songs better serve the tone of the album. The instruments speak for themselves. The vocals, at times, drown out the music.
