Bringing in the bands
Sky now offers live music lineup
By Erica Febré efebre@hippopress.com

Since opening their doors in early February, Sky Lounge & Bistro in Nashua has undergone some musically dedicated rearrangements of their entertainment schedule.

Originally catering to the DJ-and-dancing nightlife scene, Sky Lounge is now focusing on the live music scene, featuring live bands playing top cover tunes four nights a week.

“We decided to give the Nashua area what we felt it was lacking: an upscale live music venue that can host large bands, such as Mama Kicks, Last Kid Picked and many more,” said Alex Newell with Sky Lounge.

Every Wednesday night at Sky Lounge, solo singer and songwriter Joe Young plays an acoustic set. Young plays the covers, occasionally throwing in his original tunes.

Thursday nights are also dedicated to acoustic-style music with Mugsy holding the month of October. Mugsy is a New England-based acoustic trio featuring Steve Archambault on vocals, Mark Fitzpatrick on guitar and Justin Pacy on drums.

On Friday and Saturday nights at Sky Lounge, full bands add to the atmosphere, covering everything from rock to jazz and more. Mama Kicks, a rock cover band from Manchester, will perform on Friday, Oct. 12.

Performing on Saturday, Oct. 13, is 3rd Left from Plymouth, Mass. Featuring Zak Frey on drums, Brian Hitchings and Byran Pierce on rhythms and guitar, and Johnny Souza on trumpet, 3rd Left is a “jazzy, reggae and funk band with rock overtones and melodic harmonies.”

The following weekend brings in two more bands: Kinetic Theory on Friday, Oct. 19, and Sugarfoot & The Brass Kickin’ Horns on Saturday, Oct. 20. Kinetic Theory, featuring Shaun Flanagan on vocals and rhythm guitar, Chad Niles on lead guitar, Adam Bernard on bass and Marty Lewis on drums, is an original hard-hitting alternative rock band.
