Get ready to rock, roll and ride in downtown Manchester with Spider Bite’s 10-year anniversary celebration on Saturday, Aug. 5.
Events will begin at noon and continue until 9 p.m. but that’s not the end of the party as the festivities will continue with an after-party event at the Spyder Room, 342 Lincoln St., Manchester.
“Everybody claims that once you make it past the five-year mark in the business, you are established. Well I’ve made it to 10. I went from being a little hole in the wall to something really fantastic,” said Jon Thomas, owner of Spider Bite.
Thomas said that Spider Bite started out just doing body piercing and later offered tanning. They added tattoos after a lawsuit overturned a city prohibition tattooing. Today, Spider Bite features a full salon as well as a limousine service. Thomas has plans to continue expansion at Spider Bite, such as adding another limousine. And then there’s Spider Bite radio, www.spider-bite.com, which streams music by local bands.
Spider Bite can also be found in the Guinness Book of World Records. They broke the record for the most piercing on one person in 2000 after a session that lasted more than three hours.
“I’d like to think that, in a few more years, we will have some of the best tattoo artists in town. Of course, in the beginning everybody thought body piercing was just going to be a fad but here it is 10 years later and a part of everyday life,” Thomas said.
Ill Minded Racing Motorcycle Stunt Team will join the party, using a blocked off portion of the street to perform stunts for the public. These riders can do some wicked crazy, or in their own words, Ill Minded, stunts.
The lineup for musical entertainment includes Jonny Stonez, HourPast, Heartless Kings, Vegas Temper, Angry Hill, Trashlight Vision and I. Bands will continue to perform during the after-party at Spyder Room. On the schedule so far are Black Market Hero, Secondface and Article 10.
The event also will feature free eats from Down N Dirty Barbecue, a rock climbing wall, a beer garden, raffles, a DJ to fill in the time between bands and a bikini bike wash.
Spider Bite expects the event to draw more than 2,500 people to its store location. Proceeds from the anniversary celebration will go to benefit the Desert Storm Memorial Drive and the MA Soldier’s Legacy Fund.
