Be a good neighbor
The Breezeway Block Party brings music and food to its neighborhood
By Richie Victorino  rvictorino@hippopress.com

Block parties mean a lot of things (fun outdoors, neighborly love, etc.) but ultimately what a block party means is … it’s summer.

Apparently the folks at The Breezeway are well aware of what month it is, because they’re throwing a fantastic block party this Saturday, June 24, featuring live music, barbecue food and plenty of other fun stuff to do. The event coincides with New Hampshire Pride.

The bar opens up at 11 a.m. and music will begin at 1 p.m. The headliners, Entrain, perform from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The music
Karen Grenier
– guitarist/singer: When it comes to summer, Karen Grenier can usually be found performing in Provincetown, Mass., but she’s heading north to perform at the Breezeway. In 2002 Grenier received a songwriting award from Nashville’s Music City Search and in 2003 she left her job as an elementary school counselor to perform music full time. www.kgrenier.com.

Dana Shellmire – pianist/singer: Shellmire’s brand of music is considered to be jazz with some pop-rock fused into it. But she also successfully performs blues, funk and Latin-styled music. She’s performed nearly 600 times in the last four years, and has toured across three continents. www.danashellmire.com.

Kelley Morris – folk guitarist: Kelley Morris’ music comes straight from the heart. She sings about tolerance for all humanity. She writes about racism, child sexual abuse and poverty. Morris first picked up the guitar as a child and turned to the guitar, after a series of tragic events, as a means of both survival and escape.

Entrain – percussion-driven six-piece band: Entrain hails from Martha’s Vineyard, and was founded by drummer Tom Major in 1993. Entrain is all about the drums, baby, but that’s not all they boast. They’ve got bass; they’ve got saxophones; they’ve got guitars, keyboards and vocals (oh my), and they’ve got talent. Since forming, the band has jammed with the likes of James Taylor, Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir and Bo Diddley. They also jammed with a saxophonist by the name of Bill Clinton (oh yeah, he was also President)..
