Protokoll, Moving Forward
Iheartcomix Records, 2006

One of the bacterial life forms thriving in the dirty water of Boston is a microbe that enhances — for better or worse — an individual’s ability to key into pogo-bubble from the ’80s. You thought the Big Dig was a horror show — picture those guys trying to rid the city of every vestige of that little queebie. Either way it’s too late to vaccinate Protokoll, and they’d probably refuse the needle anyhow being that they’re finding audiences for their Modern English/Cure/Burma fricassee across the pond, which is as good a place as any for it since American honkies have no inclination to learn how to dance. You could replace this CD with any Best Of The Channel comp and barely feel a ripple, but that’s the beauty of it — the title track alone microwaves the refrain from The Cure’s “Inbetween Days” and if you seriously think these nice boys should be doing more homework than that you’re probably not stable enough to be reading record reviews in the first place.
