Drinks in Manchester
A guide to the city’s cocktail scene
By Erica Febre efebre@hippopress.com

The city of Manchester has more than 50 bars, from martini lounges to sports bars.

It seems like a lot, but with more than 100,000 people living in the city, that equals about 2,000 people per bar (and most bars can’t hold more than 200 people, so plenty of us would still be waiting behind a velvet rope outside if the whole city went for a drink).

People: Cookie dealer
by John "jaQ" Andrews jandrews@hippopress.com

Molly Smith grew up as a Brownie in the Girl Scouts in Massachusetts. She’s now Public Relations Manager for the Swift Water Council, which covers all of New Hampshire and two counties in eastern Vermont. That’s 14,000 girls and 4,000 volunteers who are all focused on selling Girl Scout Cookies this month. Although the cookies don’t get delivered until March, hordes of little girls are taking pre-orders now. They’ll snag you with their doe eyes in front of the grocery store in a month or so.

Food: It's a wrap
By Susan Reilly news@hippopress.com

Craig Farrington started out in the restaurant business 35 years ago. He had spent two days washing dishes at the Howard Johnson’s in Weir’s Beach when the cook didn’t show up for work and he was put in front of the stove.

Longshots: Winning and what else matters in college coaching?
by Dave Long

Now that the Patriots are out, let’s get to something I haven’t been able to get to: the recent milestones reached in college basketball, where Keith Dickson won his 400th game, UConn’s Geno Auriemma won number 600 and Bobby Knight passed Dean Smith for the most wins in NCAA history. Those accomplishments got me thinking about what a coach is supposed to be and how the job each holds differs from the other.

Techie: iPhone it now
by John "jaQ" Andrews jandrews@hippopress.com

The biggest product announcement this month wasn’t at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, but at the Macworld Expo in San Francisco.
