Pinings: Nice to meet you
by Sherry Hughes

Dear Readers,
Iíve really enjoyed chatting with you this past year. I wanted to take this opportunity to say Happy Holidays and all of that stuff and let you know how much I enjoy this gig. A couple of weeks ago, I met a guy while I was making a visit to the local hospital (nope, Iím not sick). He came across the lobby, saying ďHey ÖI know you. I read your column in Hippo!Ē It was kind of surreal. I was going to have a test done (OK, OK, mammogram. You happy now?) and I was rushing (Iím allllllways late) and in the middle of a busy day at work (that would be any day of the week). I was not expecting to see anyone I know, so Iím sure I looked like a deer caught in the headlights. Anyway, it was nice to meet a Hippo fan.

Over the years that Iíve been writing this column, Iíve heard from high school classmates and former coworkers via e-mail who found me through Hippo. Iíve been stopped at stores and restaurants. It always puzzles me (how do they know who I am?) until Iím reminded that my picture is attached to my column every week. So you all know my mug. The weird part is that I donít know you, so it feels, at first, a little strange when someone comes up to talk. I have to say though, itís such a nice thing. I really love talking to you all and hearing from you. I donít mean for this to sound like a ďto my fansĒ kind of column, which would be Ö gross. But I want you to know that this is a very fun part of my life. And I hope you all enjoy the holiday season.

A few suggestions:

Donít drink and drive.

Remember that you donít have to go to every fight you are invited to.

Keep in mind that itís more important to be kind than it is to be right.

It sucks to be in debt in January because you had too little self-control in December.

Try to do something nice for someone who is struggling in life right now.
